How it works
What makes a sound harmonious? A voice or a violin string sounds its fundamental together with a whole family of overtones, a bell adds its shimmering partials, a waterfall a broad wash of every frequency. Each natural source releases all of it at once, from one place, in every direction, and the room answers from all around. A recording, digital or analogue, holds the music as it arrived at the microphones. The Mechow is built to give that music back its natural, harmonious radiation.
At the heart of every Original Mechow Sound Transducer® sits the Kampanoid, a double cone with grooved surfaces. The driver fires straight into the cone, and the cone turns that direct sound into spherical sound, released from one compact point and spread evenly all around the transducer. The full spectrum of overtones in your music reaches the room the way a natural source sends it out: from a point, in every direction, as harmonious natural sound waves. This is the cone geometry protected by German patent DE 10 2011 016 326, classified IPC H04R 1/32 and granted in December 2016.
Two transducers play in phase through a three-channel amplifier. Between them a single spatial sound image forms in the room, which Mechow calls the acoustic hologram. Sit in the middle and the music surrounds you.
The idea is more than thirty years old. Rudolf Mechow's Phoenix sound columns filled churches and concert halls in the 1990s, and in 1996 carried the papal mass in the Berlin Olympiastadion. Today the Mechow range reaches from the Happy Body at home to the Mechow Med, the P2 and P3 sound furniture, the DAS systems and the PA line for musicians and stages.

Natural sound is also studied in the lab. At Brighton and Sussex Medical School, 17 volunteers listened to natural and artificial soundscapes; with natural sounds their heart rhythm showed a rise in parasympathetic activity, the rest-and-digest branch of the nervous system (Gould van Praag et al., Scientific Reports, 2017). At Stockholm University, 40 people recovering from a stressful arithmetic task tended to settle faster, measured by skin conductance, while listening to nature sounds than to environmental noise (Alvarsson et al., International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2010). Rudolf Mechow took nature as his teacher for the way sound leaves its source: from a point, in every direction.

What can I play on the Happy Body?
Your own music, and the audio that comes pre-installed on the system, including pink noise, a sound that carries all audible frequencies with equal energy per octave.
How is it set up?
The two transducers stand on their height-adjustable folding stands, with you in the middle between them. The main unit has a handle and its own protective case, and the accessories travel in the flight case, so the system moves easily from room to room.
Can I expand it later?
Yes. Mechow offers an additional bass unit and extra mid/treble transducers for the Happy Body. We are happy to support you with options and prices.
