The QELBY Blanket is a soft textile sleeping pad with the QELBY somatid ceramic fused into the yarn itself. QELBY was formerly sold as Somatide. This is the double layer version: double the QELBY ceramic and a thicker fabric than the single layer blanket, for use under your bedsheet or as a blanket in bed or on the sofa.

What it's designed to bring into the bedroom
The bedroom is where your body rests and recovers, night after night, which makes it a natural place to bring the ceramic close to you while you sleep. The manufacturer describes the QELBY ceramic in the yarn as emitting negative electrons and far infrared, and designed to reduce the effect of electromagnetic fields while you sleep. Independently, a 2018 study in PLOS ONE, funded by Quantum Energy Co., measured the same ceramic powder's far-infrared emissivity at 0.927 between 5 and 20 micrometres. Gerald Pollack's University of Washington laboratory has separately studied how this ceramic builds exclusion-zone (EZ) water, the layer Pollack calls "the fourth phase of water", in two published, manufacturer-funded studies (2017, 2018). The double layer carries twice the ceramic of the single layer version.

Composition
Polyester (Quantum Poly) 92 percent, polyurethane 8 percent. Many people rightly look twice at polyester. It is used here because it holds the QELBY powder in the fabric, and the higher energy of the QELBY ceramic fused into every thread supersedes the lower energy of the polyester.
Care instructions from the manufacturer
- Always wash with cold water, below 20°C (68°F)
- Do not wash in hot water, above 20°C (68°F)
- Hand washing or machine washing is acceptable
- Do not apply heat or use high-temperature ironing during drying
- Dry naturally in the shade
The manufacturer describes the QELBY functionality as remaining semi-permanent after 100 or more washes.
